FIRE

My love for you is like a gentle fire,

That radiates with warmth on winter nights;

With constant care the flame will not expire,

Through subtle prods it glows and hits new heights;

Like you, a fire has elegance and grace,

The centrepiece in rooms of every size;

Its sparkling splendour sets my heart apace,

Its naked beauty captivates my eyes;

But should a jealous fire of passion burn,

I’ll tend the blaze and make the heat abate;

Lest fickle flames of anger quickly turn

To ravaging infernos of pure hate.

Combustible emotion fuels desire,

But only love itself can fuel love’s fire.
