LAMENT

Let Daddy wipe the teardrop from your eye,

Then rock the cradle, gently, to and fro,

And sing to you a goodnight lullaby.

I’m sorry Mummy couldn’t say goodbye,

But you were sleeping when she had to go;

Let Daddy wipe the teardrop from your eye.

Since you were born no single night went by,

Where Mummy failed to say she loves you so,

And sing to you a goodnight lullaby,

Her heart will break if she can see you cry,

The pain will grieve her more than you could know;

Let Daddy wipe the teardrop from your eye.

You look perplexed and helpless, as am I,

It makes no sense why Mummy’s failed to show,

And sing to you a goodnight lullaby.

Next time we gaze upon the evening sky,

A brand new star will shine to say, ‘Hello,

Let Daddy wipe the teardrop from your eye,

And sing to you a goodnight lullaby’.
