THE PATH TO LOVE

Love’s path is like a mountain track

With hazards lurking underfoot,

To trip and trap and hold us back,

Imposing doubts on our pursuit:

But when a motive is sincere,

We find the will to persevere.

The journey’s long and arduous

With twists and turns at every stage,

One moment things are congruous,

Then suddenly we disengage:

So rest we must from time to time,

For there are several hills to climb.

Each step is subtler than the last

And every effort takes its toll,

Calamities loom thick and fast,

So focus solely on the goal:

Feel all perplexities and fears

Diminish as the peak appears.

Yet once we reach the pinnacle

Our progress we must contemplate,

Pure thoughts can turn to cynical

If downhill seems the likely fate:

So hand in hand, like lovers do,

We’ll linger and enjoy the view
